After some very extensive research, Anderos has conducted an interview with a New-York City fashion connaisseur that shared his fashion epiphany with us.

Hi, my name is Tom! Being a thirty some year old lawyer living in New-York City definitely has its perks, I won’t lie. The city is full of life - there is some truth to its well-known nickname: “the city that never sleeps”! Although, amidst all of the chaos that surrounds this urban area, it is sometimes difficult to have a mind of your own and recognise all that truly has value. This theory especially applies to the fashion world. For those who aren’t familiar with the industry - fashion is a much more complex thing than simply sitting front row of catwalk shows in New York, London, Milan and Paris, and constantly watching models strut their stuff. So what is fashion? Fashion is an art, a style, a compilation of trends. It is an ever-changing industry, dictated by a variety of different cultural icons, which include political figures, movie stars and royalty.

Life changing decisions

In this type of environment, it is easy to get lost in the crowd and follow the mass trends. This is exactly what happened to me. Somewhere in between the crazy work hours at the office, and my fast-paced routine, I lost sight of the importance of what distinguished me, not only as a big-shot defence attorney but first and foremost as a person. Until one day, I was flipping through a fashion magazine I wanted to become my own person again! In terms of fashion and trends, this especially included making the switch from overrated mainstream accessories towards original designer pieces, that are defined by their own story. Granted, these pieces can sometimes be a little more pricey, but that, in my opinion, are definitely worth the extra budget planning. So you may be wondering why it’s so important to invest more time, money and energy in the fashion accessories you decide to purchase? The answer is really very simple: your style defines you. Therefore, the fashion accessories you wear can make some pretty important statements on who you are and what you stand for. I decided to stray away from those mass production accessories and brands that everyone knows and worships, simply because I was looking to feel unique and original, to create my own style that represented who I was.Feeling unique and original

One of my primary reasons for change: I wanted to feel original and unique. And I knew that if I continued to follow the herd, it would get me nowhere. Don’t get me wrong, I have some mainstream accessories that I am never getting rid of. I love how they fit and what they do to my outfits. I think it’s matter of stepping out of your comfort zone, taking risks and allowing yourself to be the best version of yourself - which doesn’t always correspond to the image and standards created by society. I’ve recently discovered some very interesting and original brands on the Anderos platform, such as Klokers - a unique time telling brand. The concept is simple but revolutionary: there are no hands that rotate on KLOK-01, but the whole dial itself. It uses three concentric rings to display the time along with a vertical line. Each Klokers timepiece is inspired by an iconic object from the past to create a bridge allowing us to travel from the past to the present and future. The transitive design creates machines that travel through time. Granted, sporting known watch brands such as Fossil or Swatch are always pretty to sport. But that’s exactly what they’ve become: pretty common. Everyone wears them, everyone flaunts them. When I walked into my Monday morning meeting - Klokers watch on my wrist - all eyes were on me… Well, on my wrist, but you know what I mean. That accessory made a statement. I was indirectly telling my colleagues that I was different, that I had a mind of my own, and that I wasn’t afraid to own up to it.

Feeling timeless

Yves Saint-Laurent once stated, “Fashions fade, style is eternal.” There is a lot of truth to this quote. What the French designer was saying is that trends come and go. If you choose to follow the current trends, you too will fade with them. And no one really wants to feel like they’re fading… At least I know I didn’t! I wanted my fashion statements and my style to remain timeless; that was one of the reasons that pushed me to dive into the world of unique designers. I would like to share one of my recent fashion discoveries with you: an interesting brand that is timeless in my eyes; Ullys - a French brand that is inspired by greek mythology. Ullys specialises in ties, each one created in a different shade of blue. The brand takes its roots in the antic universe to offer a modern and timeless journey. Craftsman with expert hands are in charge of building the accessories. Each item has a unique history, coming straight from the myth. Also, because elegance is not only about appearance, Ullys is engaged in its community. The brand fights to offer access to clean water around the world. Needless to say, my first time sporting an Ullys tie was actually on a date. The night turned ended up being a smashing success! I’m not saying it was entirely because of the tie but I’m sure the Blue and White Silk Tie had something to do with it! After all, they say you attract what you are. And that night, I was a deep blue ocean of confidence and elegance, thanks to Ullys.

Fashion epiphany

Ever since this fashion epiphany, I can now say I wake up in the morning as a new and changed man. I am no longer interested in what is mainstream. Instead, I look for unique and timeless accessories, that help bring out my cool and collective, yet peppy side. Because your style is a reflection of who you are, and I consider myself to be different than the common Joe. I think it’s important to give people a glimpse of who you are, without necessarily unveiling all of that mystery.
